Review :

Not so good Mexisploitation.

"Yako, Cazador de Malditos" is the typical exploitation flick that deals with revenge. Yes, a revenge flick in other words.

Unlike most of American's films of the kind; this one does not have too much graphic violence, gore, or even elaborated f/x that could gross out the audience.

The plot deals with a band of mountain rednecks who murder Yako's pregnant wife. Obviously, Yako takes revenge on every single gang member. The survivor of the gang, "El Texano" is actually who killed his wife. The ending is predictable and I expected more violence on it.

So, this is a light Mexisploitation flick with plenty of mediocre acting (specially from Yañez and Chatanuga), dull murder and action sequences, and horrible music.

The best feature of the movie is the crisp cinematography that gives a feeling of a 70's exploitation flick.

If you are easily amused by Mexican action/revenge flicks you might want to check out this one. If not, please avoid it! It tries too hard to be taken seriously.

Even better than first one!

This movie follows Bore Lees previous masterpiece - U kandzama velegrada, only - EVERYTHING IS MUCH BETTER HERE! When I say "everything", i think of fight scenes, special effects, villains, scenery, camera work, director craftsmanship etc... Sometimes I work as a movie critic for several Croatian newspapers so I've got opportunity to see many movies but this one takes the cake! It is rather unbelievable that this film is so cheap because it doesn't look like that: car chases (exploding cars), so many extras, vivid costumes and many star cameo people in this movie. If you like early work from Sam Raimi or even Peter Jackson (that means - if you are true trash fan!) I recommend this one from the bottom of my heart. Also, check out the soundtrack for this movie because it has music from some of the hottest rap stars from Balkan - Edo Maajka, The Beat Fleet, Postolar Triper and many others. The only things it needs to be perfect is - more nude chicks! :)

Balkanisation of violence in an absolutely non decrepit setting.

A highly sensitive aspect of Yugoslav director Djordje Milosavljevic's second film "Mechanism" concerns his imaginative narrative which has been the driving force to create a film in which a viewer is neither allowed to feel cheated nor taken for a ride.This is because of director's firm grip on sequence of events which range from scenes of boredom to scenes of utterly grotesque violence.It is no wonder that Milosavljevic is hailed as Balkan Tarantino.Apart from stress on all forms of violence there is a good deal of focus on unusual camera angles.This is something which brings a kind of realism to the violent scenes in the film. In "Mechanism", there is a virtuoso display of various forms of evil which may or might not have a directing bearing on the events that have taken place in Balkans.The best lesson that can be retained from "Mechanism" is that whenever senseless violence rears its ugly head,it is common people whose lives are shattered.They have to pay a price amidst all kinds of turmoils.By making "Mechanism", Yugoslav auteur Djordje Milosavljevic has crafted a superb film which needs to be seen more than once in order to comprehend the richness of its hideous ideas.

edge of your seat thriller?

A combination of Hitchcock suspense and Hong Kong violence best describes Ringo Lam's directing style. This hybrid respresents a difficult task because the film must retain qualities of both genres to succeed. In films such as Full Alert and even Maximum Risk with Jean Claude Van Damme, Lam can create an action joyride with climatic thrills without losing a touch of either genre. This formula fails in Victim. In addition to combining suspense and violence, Lam decides to add the presence of the supernatural. Although Hitchcock has managed excellence with this hybrid, Lam fails because of the consistency of maintaining the unknown throughout the film. In the first half of the film,Lam creates such a spooky environment that we can actually believe there exists a supernatural essence. However, the second half of the film basically abandons this concept. The main character switches from insanity to sanity between scenes in such an awkward manner that Victim loses its credibility in establishing the possibility of ghostly possession. Changing of setting in the second half also causes Victim to lose its supernatural influence. With the exception of the ending, the second half bases itself entirely in the daytime compared to the evening/night for the first half. In fact, the scenes for the nightime setting occured in scary places such as an abandoned hotel and a lonely road/highway. The film's abrupt ending further aggravates the flow of this film. Victim could have been an excellent thriller if Lam maintained the sense of the supernatural by maintaining the consistency of his main character's behavior and a sense of supernatural influence for each scene. Instead, he leaves us with a Hitchcock-wannabe that would not satisfy even the most dedicated thriller fan.

Stranded in a tediously drawn-out snorefest

Touchy, whiny, hot-tempered Native American basketball superstar Jimmy War Eagle (blandly played by George Bryson) while en route to Central America with a large sum of disaster relief money in his possession is forced to crash-land his plane on a remote tropical island because of a severe storm. Jimmy buries the money in a swamp and seeks refuge at a primitive village where he befriends a nice priest (amiable Federico Roberto) and a lovely young lady (the fetching Maria Grimn). Meanwhile a couple of no-count layabouts try to find Jimmy's money. While the plot has promise, director George Leskay crucially fails to inject any much-needed style or energy into the generally plodding proceedings. The talky, uneventful script, sluggish pace, numbing surplus of drab dialogue, and especially Jimmy's annoying incessant complaining about the white man's cruel mistreatment of Native Americans are all a grueling chore to endure. The gorgeous tropical scenery, Grimn's stunning brunette beauty, and a smidgen of action towards the very end offer a little relief from the overall tedium, but for the most part this film is way too dreary and drawn-out to provide any real fun and satisfying entertainment.

Murky thriller

An American journalist (Dale Robertson), traveling on the Intercontinental Express through the former Yugoslavia, meets a beautiful but enigmatic woman (Luciana Paluzzi) on board, and gets caught up in an adventure involving the search for some "one-eyed soldiers", who hold the key (literally) to a massive fortune. Of course, those two are not the only ones involved in this peculiar treasure hunt. An even bigger mystery than the one related to the title is how Luciana Paluzzi, who had shown the whole world that she combined top-class looks with a commanding screen presence with her role as the classic femme fatale Fiona Volpe in the James Bond film "Thunderball" in 1965, found herself in this obviously B-grade production just one year later. The story is murky and generally uninteresting until the last 10 minutes or so. Paluzzi herself begins as a more dynamic character than she ends up being. This film is only for her completists. Singh is kinng off 90's

In the 90's mad films dominated, Akshay Kumar did several stupid and some entertaining films

This can be put in the entertaining list but it's lot stupid too

There are some crude scenes, especially the Akshay-Raveena portion in the plane and also several more lots of fight scenes and of course Akshay vs Undertaker which is a highlight

The main story is good and well handled but the film gets too much many times especially the finale fight where Akshay is shown like a tiger

That's the rating this film has received so far?! I guess this really is a love-it-or-hate-it film; but I watched it twice in two nights without the benefit of English subtitles, that should tell you something. Even without understandable dialogue it's funny, exciting, and even a bit challenging. It's nice to see a film with artistic merit that isn't afraid to be entertaining. The film's unusual fight scenes are really something to see; at times it appears that the director just let the actors fight while the camera ran, sometimes for up to a minute at a time without any cuts. I can't recommend it enough. I imagine being able to understand it could only be an improvement.

Godfrey Ho takes up acting!!!!!!

Well, what do we have here? Why it's a modern cut and paste effort in true Godfrey Ho style! But hold on a minute......do my eyes deceive me or is that actually the great man himself appearing in this?!!!! Good God! - Yes it is indeed! And who directed this film? - Ed Woo eh? Hmmmmmm........pull the other one! - Godfrey, you old scoundrel you! You've been at it again haven't you?!

Yep, all of our God(frey's) trademarks are here; an indecipherable plot (in this case something about the Yakuza and Triads teaming up), plus some brand new footage featuring western actors edited into proceedings in order to give the finished movie a wider international appeal (ostensibly). In this case our lead man happens to be none other than kickboxing legend Joe Lewis. Unfortunately all of Joe's scenes stand out like a sore thumb however as they have been shot on the cheap, on what appears to be regular video tape(!) Added to this, judging by the decidedly awkward performances in these newer segments, the script to was presumably skimped on leaving the impression that the actors are ad libbing most of their lines! On the positive side however, whilst sadly getting very little screen time, Joe does at least get to demonstrate some of his moves towards the end in this.

OK so that describes the newer sequences; what about the original film into which they are (clumsily) edited?

Well actually it's rather solid stuff featuring some excellent John Woo style shootouts plus some cool martial arts throughout. Particularly noteworthy is the rather splendid beginning in this wherein the bad guys gate crash a wedding and proceed to wipe out virtually every guest!

But let's be quite honest here folks; this film is chiefly memorable for one thing and one thing only and that my friends is the majestic on screen presence of one man......ney, one demi-god......the great man himself Mr Godfrey Ho! His electrifying performance here is surely comparable even to his directorial genius; In fact he clearly demonstrates that he is easily in the same league as the likes of the Brando's and De Niro's of this world. Indeed, quite how this master of his craft was overlooked for the best foreign actor award at the Oscar's is a veritable crime! Shame on you Hollywood!

As good as the first one

Naturally most people will compare this with the cult movie In china they eat dogs, since it is a sequel with same characters at most.

A comparison is only to value if You have seen the first one of course. Anyway, I would say that I found this more fun then the first but it doesn't mean better. The first has a more serious undertone. And I think it depends on what mode You are in when watching. I didn't have great expectations on this because of the reviews but laughed out loud many times because of silly situations. I would rank both films as 10 stars. So refreshing non-Hollywood made, character, environment.

I wouldn't say that this is so much pulp fiction but more Lock stock movie. There are so many holes in the plot but thats not important. You have to look beyond them and take it for what it is. Black humor at it's best, and as good as In China in every aspect.
